Recent layoffs at Humble Games, the publisher of Coral Island, have cast a shadow over the game's Nintendo Switch port. Developer Stairway Games has expressed concern about the port's future due to the restructuring at Humble Games.
In a statement to Nintendo Life, Stairway Games cofounder David Rebuck said, "The layoffs at Humble Games have left us in a tough spot. We're working through our options and will have an update as soon as possible. We appreciate the support of our fans and hope to have more news to share soon."
The layoffs at Humble Games have reportedly impacted the entire staff, leaving Stairway Games without a publisher for the Switch port. The developer is exploring its options and seeking a new publishing partner to help bring Coral Island to the Switch.
Coral Island is a farming simulator game set on a tropical island. It was originally released on PC in early access in October 2022. The Switch port was planned for release in 2023, but the layoffs at Humble Games have now put that in doubt.
Nintendo Switch players who have been eagerly awaiting the release of Coral Island will need to be patient as Stairway Games works through the challenges it faces. The developer remains committed to releasing the Switch port, but the timeline for its release is now uncertain.
