F1. Little certainty for Aston Martin, RB and Sauber at Singapore GP
Aston Martin and Sauber
Aston Martin and Sauber remained uncertain about their chances of qualifying for Q3 at the Singapore Grand Prix, despite both teams showing promising pace during the opening day of practice at Marina Bay.
Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished P10 and P13 respectively in the combined times from FP1 and FP2, but the team was not content with its position.
Stroll said: "We're lacking a little bit of single-lap pace. We're just not quite where we want to be yet."
Sauber
Sauber’s Charles Leclerc was the team’s top performer, finishing P8, while Marcus Ericsson was P14.
Leclerc said that “we will see where we are in qualifying, but I still think that we are not in the best shape and I think we need to understand a few things tonight and make some steps forward.”
Red Bull
Red Bull were also uncertain about their chances of qualifying for Q3, despite Daniel Ricciardo finishing P5 and Max Verstappen P4 in the combined practice times.
Ricciardo said: “The pace in the race was not great. The long run, we didn’t have the pace. The single lap was better, but I think we still need to find a little bit more to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari.”
Verstappen added: “The long runs were a bit tricky, we are still struggling a little bit with the balance and I think on the short run we can still improve.”
